Salvaging Failed Bone-Breaking Surgery

1

Recurrence of R. bunion after bone-breaking surgery was corrected by syndesmosis procedure with L. foot at the same time

This female had recurrence of bunion deformity and pain after a break-n-shift surgery of her right foot 5 years earlier. Her left foot bunion deformity also became painful and thus both underwent bilateral non-bone-breaking syndesmosis procedure at the same time. Her excellent result could be seen by her truly narrowed first intermetatarsal space and improved big toe function.

2

Recurrence of L. bunion after bone-breaking surgery was corrected by syndesmosis procedure with R. foot at the same time

This lady had persistent pain of her left foot after break-n-shift bunion surgery more than 10 years earlier and never returned for her right foot bunion surgery. After non-bone-breaking syndesmosis procedure, her feet were truly narrowed to fit in any regular shoes without any more pain. Despite returning to much more active life, her metatarsal calluses still subsided due likely to much improved function of her feet that was demonstrated by her plantar pressure function study with F-Scan©.
P.S.: Notice the truly narrowed space between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones without having to break any of them.

3

Recurrence of L. bunion after bone-breaking surgery was corrected by syndesmosis procedure with R. foot at the same time

As previous cases, this lady had unsuccessful left break-n-shift bunion surgery elsewhere few years earlier but was ecstatic about the complete disappearance of her pain and calluses after the non-bone-breaking syndesmosis procedure.

P.S.: Notice the truly narrowed space between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones without having to break any of them.

4

Bilateral bunion deformity recurrence after break-n-shift surgery was corrected by the non-bone-breaking syndesmosis procedure

This patient had recurrence of bunion deformity and persistent pain after break-n-shift bunion surgery of her both feet. After the non-bone-breaking syndesmosis procedure, not only her big toes were straight again but also her left second toe due to actual restoration of big toe function that was shown by her plantar pressure scan study with the F-Scan©.

P.S.: Notice the truly narrowed space between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones without having to break any of them.

5

Bilateral bunion deformity recurrence after break-n-shift surgery was corrected by the non-bone-breaking syndesmosis procedure

This lady had also distal break-n-shift bunion surgery of her feet and recurrence of deformity and pain. Again the non-bone-breaking syndesmosis procedure could restore normality for her feet.

P.S.: Notice the truly narrowed space between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones without having to break any of them again.
